Submission Template Upload Order

Many templates reference records defined in other templates (study → arm → subject → sample → experiment → result), so there's a required order. This page is a text transcription of the master decision flow diagram below, so it's searchable and easy to script against — not just visible as an image.

Typical ImmPort Submission Template Upload Order

The decision tree

  1. Register the study — via SRW, or basic_study_design.txt + protocols.txt if not using the SRW.
  2. Human or animal study?
  3. Interventions or concomitant medications?
  4. Study-related or coincident adverse events?
  5. Non-sample-based results (questionnaires, medical history, etc.)?
  6. Lab tests conducted?
  7. Assay results? → follow the assay-specific flow diagram for your experiment type (table below).

General rule of thumb

Reading the ImmPort Data Model left-to-right generally indicates upload order. If one template's foreign keys depend on another, either upload them in separate passes in the correct order, or bundle them together in one package — see each assay's "same package" rule below.

Per-assay flow diagrams

Each of these encodes the exact template sequence and which templates must be bundled in the same upload package — a constraint that otherwise only exists inside the original PDF, not in any individual template's reference page.
