Is data submission free? Yes, data submission is free. ImmPort is funded by the NIH, NIAID and DAIT in support of the NIH mission to share data with the public. Data shared through ImmPort has been provided by NIH-funded programs, other research organizations and individual scientists ensuring these discoveries can be the foundation of future research.

What type of data is in ImmPort? ImmPort currently hosts studies across various immunology-related research focuses and assay methods. By November 2024, ImmPort holds over 1,100 studies and 164K+ subjects for 169 diseases supported by more than 4,000 experiments, and over 7.3 million experimental results. For a breakdown of the types of studies currently shared in ImmPort, please explore our Shared Data site: ImmPort Shared Data

Is a grant or contract needed to share data? Grant or Contract IDs are not required for data sharing however the IDs do help with ensuring appropriate attribution based on the funding ID.

Do I need to have a publication for my study to be shared in ImmPort? No, a study can be publication based, e.g., all data in a publication is uploaded as part of a single study OR a single study can include data that will be in a publication or is from multiple publications. Studies previously shared can also be updated with additional information at a later time and re-shared.

Is ImmPort the right repository for me? ImmPort is designed for immunology data. From Transcriptomics, Proteomics, and Metabolomics to Flow Cytometry, ELISA and more; ImmPort supports large, complex datasets that empower research. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, ImmPort is a free resource for the community, and follows best practices for data management and sharing. As an accredited repository, recommended by journals, your data will join many other high-quality data sets that are advancing science.

Data Submission

Where can I find resources and tools to upload my data? The ImmPort team has developed great tools and resources to support your data sharing process. Find detailed data submission steps here- Data Submission Process Guide.

What is meant by a ‘study’? A study is a collection of data generated based on a research or clinical study protocol. A study may be focused on data referenced in a manuscript and would be sufficient for the data consumer to fully understand the conclusions presented in the manuscript and conduct a reanalysis with similar results.

Am I required to use the Study Registration Wizard to upload my data? Data providers are not required to use the Study Registration Wizard. The Study Registration Wizard is a tool designed to assist data providers with data loading. The basic_study_design.txt template and the protocol.txt template can be used to upload the same information as the Study Registration Wizard.

How long does Validation and Upload take? The Validator and Uploader may take anywhere from five minutes to much longer depending on the volume and complexity of data loaded. You will receive an email notification of the status of completion or rejection of the upload.

How soon can I see my study in ImmPort? You should be able to view your successfully uploaded study in your ImmPort Private workspace within 5 minutes of receiving the email notifying you of the successful upload. Please know that seeing the data available in your private workspace does not mean it has been publicly released yet.

When will my study be shared? ImmPort follows a monthly data release schedule. Please contact the ImmPort team to include your study in an upcoming data release, ImmPort_Helpdesk@immport.org. For available data, click here.

Are there restrictions to the types of Study Files that can be uploaded? Study file formats can be .pdf, .txt, .csv, .xls(x), .doc(x) or other commonly used file types. Study files can also be .zip files.
